Born and living in Cork City, Ireland Terry McAuliffe began as a photographer in 2019.
My approach to photography and to this series of images has stemmed from a renewed love for the city In which I was raised, a city that I greatly took for granted and one that I never fully “seen” before. It has been my biggest inspiration and muse and I wanted to make photographs of Cork that weren’t your typical postcard shot of the Shandon Bells or UCC or any other local landmark but to showcase the beauty in the mundane backstreets and suburbs, the vibrancy and diversity of the people as they go about their day and to create scenes that told a story or made the viewer feel something. I’ve been on the streets constantly over the past two years documenting the loneliness and sense of abandon that the pandemic brought to the people and to the streets and business’s but also the joyous resurgence of the city which can be seen in this series of images through my own visual style.
This collection of photographs is titled Neon Nights And Daylight: A love letter to Cork City
